serving Whitfield, Bartow, Chattooga, Floyd, Gordon, and Murray Counties

Our Mission
Helping children in need reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with volunteers.

Agency Background
The program began in Whitfield and Murray Counties in September of 1969 serving local boys with adult male mentors. In the mid 1970’s the program began matching girls with Big Sisters and today serves over 1200 children annually with mentors in the community and in the schools. The fastest growing segment of the program is the in-school mentoring service provided in 40 area schools and called the Buddy Program. In the fall of 2002 a third county, Forsyth, was added and began serving children in the traditional Big and Little program. In January, 2006 the Hispanic Mentoring Initiative started in Dalton. This effort to concentrate on serving the Hispanic population in this area was made possible by a grant from the Goizueta Foundation. Fall 2007 counties from the Coosa Valley area were added.
